The Tragedy of Baluchistan

The abuse of Baluchistan by the Pakistani state has been going on for decades, and especially since the 1970's when an armed uprising against the central government arose between 1973--1977, resulting in the death of 50,000--100,000 civilians there. The brutality is the traditional forte of the Pakistan military, with their particular penchant for excessive violence against their own unarmed people in that particular Harijan Coolie kuta way.

There is absolutely no point blaming the Zardari government which has no say either in SECURITY or FOREIGN POLICY. Zardari's job description is to shut up, smile and loot.....and visit the American embassy next to his presidential palace every day for his next set of meaningless talking points in broken English.

The Baluchis are also the smallest ethnic group in Pakistan, and don't have the clout of numbers in Islamabad. They are also a tribal based backward society in an otherwise rapidly modernizing world. However they are a wonderful noble Iranic people....who have been short changed.

Baluchistan is resource rich but the dominant Punjabis rule the state like a colony, never to be developed but kept hidden and under developed like some stashed hidden loot in a Swiss bank vault. The twisted logic of one (Punjabi) Pakistani official for this lack of resource development in Pakistan generally was that there was enough resources in the world, and Pakistan eventually would also develop......he had a Ph.D.

It will be amusing if Baluchistan is detached from Pakistan before this "Development" of the state takes place.

Naturally anti-Pakistan elements exploit the failed state nature of Baluchistan for their own geo-strategic agenda's.

The Pakistani military have not learned from the mistakes of East Pakistan confident in this case that they can easily deal with the 4 million Baluchis.......as a pose to the 75 million East Pakistanis 1000 miles away.

The NWFP and especially FATA are also severely under developed parts of Pakistan. We must conclude that the lack of development is also a factor for insurgency in both these two states.

The only "development" that takes place is in the Harijan Coolie Kuta state of the Poooonjaub.

The ZIONIST run HRW taking a belated interest in the plight of Baluchistan now, at this particular time is interesting........following hard in the heels of the Fai affair, Abbottabad, border attacks by emboldened Afghan rebels and security forces in Afghanistan against Pakistan.

Rights Groups: Pakistan Engaged in Torture, Targeted Killings in Balochistan

Scores of Activists Among the 'Disappeared' Since Zardari Govt Came to Power

by Jason Ditz, at antiwar.com

The Balochistan secessionist movement has long been a top of serious concern for Pakistani officials, but the means with which the Zardari government has been supressing that movement has been anything but public, human rights officials indicated today.

Rather, large numbers of human rights workers testified today that the Zardari government’s security forces regularly kidnap activists. Many are subjected to torture. Some are killed outright. Still others remain simply missing, part of the disappeared in a Pakistani dirty war.

One of the activists, according to Human Rights Watch, was kidnapped three times since 2005. Each time he was tortured. He’s among the lucky ones, however, as scores of the disappeared never turn up dead or alive.

Balochistan has had an active secessionist movement for decades, and that has included some militant factions willing to fight a war of secession over the matter. By and large, however, the recent violence has been relegated to the Iranian portion of Balochistan, while the Zardari government has, through sheer brutality, managed to keep the movement tamped down in Pakistan. That looks to be changing, however, and the situation looks to inevitably blow up in their faces.
