Code Pink “Hero” John Kiriakou Key CIA Figure When Death Squads Created in Iraq
This is a simple update to an article I wrote this morning about how Code Pink and other “liberal” “anti-war” groups were backing former CIA spook and ABC “News” Mockingbird John Kiriakou.

When Kiriakou was stationed in Pakistan, he worked under a guy who would kind of mentor him along the way, Robert Grenier. It was Grenier who Kiriakou was working directly under when they helped set up the leaking of Valerie Plame as a covert CIA agent in retaliation for her husband exposing the fake “Yellow Cake in Niger” story.
You see, Grenier ended up leading the CIA’s contribution to the Global Free Market Wars till he was fired in late 2006. The London Sunday Times reported that Grenier lost his job with the CIA "because he opposed detaining Al-Qaeda suspects in secret prisons abroad, sending them to other countries for interrogation and using forms of torture such as 'water boarding'."[2]He then went to head up Kroll Inc.

As many of you know, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kroll_Inc.">Kroll</a>had a rather interesting roll to play in 9/11 while Grenier was station chief in Pakistan who also had a roll to play via the ISI.

As all of this unwinds I will try to show how involved was Grenier and Kiriakou were in helping to bring the Salvadorian Option of institutionalized death squads to Iraq and what does that say about him now being hailed as a “truth teller” and hero by the American Left?

“In 2001, Grenier was the CIA station chief in Islamabad, Pakistan, where he helped plan covert operations in support of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan. In the summer of 2002 he was promoted to the chief of the Iraq Issues Group, where he helped coordinate covert operations in support of the 2003 invasion of Iraq.”

In 2002 he took Kiriakou with him to D.C. Wiki downplays this period in John’s career and as you will see, with good reason. They simply state he went to D.C. for an assignment there till he left in 2004.

In early 2004 things were turning bad in Iraq and they needed something to help quell the growing resistance to our flopping “democracy” that we never intended to bring to them. So, they turned to a tried and true method of dealing with civilians who don’t put up with our various dictators. They turned to creating roving death squads. This plan was announced, in not so many words, in early 2004 by Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz.

They brought in a guy by the name of James Steele who had run death squad training in El Salvador back in the early ’80s. Steele wasn’t there when Archbishop Romero was killed, but he was there when several other catholic priests were liquidated by the very people Steele had been training.

The new death squads in Iraq were run by none other than Gen. Betrayus which punched his ticket to a lifetime splendor.

Now remember, all this time, Kiriakou was working directly under Grenier who had been promoted to Iraq mission manager for the CIA. He was in charge of all CIA operations in country at that time and this certainly would have fallen under his field of operations.

Grenier is more than just a “true believer” in the CIA culture of corporate capitalism or death, he helped define it. He boasts on his bio page for ERG Partners (they help mergers and acquisitions snakes rip countries apart just like John’s company does) that he headed up training at “The Farm”, the legendary spook house of the CIA.
Previously, Bob was Kroll’s chairman for Global Security Consulting and a managing director, following a 27-year career with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), where most recently, Bob was the Director of CIA’s Counterterrorism Center, where he led the CIA’s involvement in the global War on Terror.
Previously, he was Deputy National Intelligence Officer for Near East and South Asia and originally conceived and organized CIA’s Counter-Proliferation Division, serving as its first Chief of Operations.
Bob’s other positions included Chief of CIA’s training at “the Farm.”, CIA’s representative to the White House on Iraq; and Chief of Station in Islamabad, Pakistan 1999–2002 before and following the attacks of 9/11. BioGrenier was deep, deep into it, all the bullshit, all the lies leading up to the invasion of Iraq not just the Yellow Cake story but the entire stove-piping operation. This was “the guy” and his guy was John Kiriakou.(He provided the 'Slam Dunk' casus Belli????)
So secret was his new job, Kiriakou wrote in his book, that he had to sign six separate “secrecy agreements.”
After he and his boss, Robert Grenier, the CIA’s associate deputy director of operations for policy support who was later promoted to Iraq mission manager, signed the secrecy agreements they were briefed on their new assignment.
“Okay, here’s the deal,” the CIA’s unnamed director of Iraq operations told Kiriakou and Grenier. “We’re going to invade Iraq next spring. We’re going to overthrow Saddam Hussein. TruthoutKiriakou worked to help promote the same illegal war and occupation that Code Pink supposedly opposes, yet there they are calling him a “hero”

But that’s not the worst of it. Remember, Kiriakou stayed on the payroll until late 2004, well into the new policy that came about in May of that same year, the policy of arming militias to wipe out Sunnis across Iraq. It was a bloodletting of biblical proportions by all standards and it was conceived of and fundamentally backed up by the CIA and therefore Grenier and John Kiriakou.

The video below goes into the details of the program, when it started, who James Steele was. It’s worth watching. It’s also worth remembering who was at the helm and who his right hand man was during the start of the Iraq Death Squads surge.

Keep in mind that Grenier and Kiriakou were both closely associated with Cheney in the run-up to the Iraq invasion and it was Cheney who ultimately brought Steele into the picture.

The torture and murder and terror that was unleashed by this new wave of U.S. backed death squads goes right to the heart of who John Kiriakou was and who is really is.

It’s also worth reporting that Grenier has become quite the Mockingbird himself, writing all kinds of articles and appearing on al Jazeera… most notably, it was Grenier who posited the first stories of bin Laden using a woman as a human shield and shooting at the SEALS, both of which turned out to be lies.

Globalist Servant John Kiriakou: Torture, Lies and 9/11 and Is the Left Stupid or Corrupt?

Foreign Policy magazine commentator Annie Lowery says: “It all seems a bit strange to me, and leads to one obvious possibility: John Kiriakou—telegenic and well-spoken John Kiriakou, who never went to jail for blasting state secrets on television—was told the story to tell and released onto an unsuspecting public. It’s an impression the CIA will have difficulty dulling now.” Foreign Policy, April 2009Strange indeed. Why didn’t the CIA arrest him, cancel his pension, lock him up right then and there? UPDATE: As Ralph Nader writes letters to Obama begging to let Kiriakou off the hook because at least Kiriakou didn’t do something as bad as leak Valerie Plame’s name to the Times, turns out, it was Kiriakou and his boss who sat in the meeting with Cheney and Libby when the leak was actually planned. And Libby says it was Kiriakou who inadvertently told him about Plame.
“Kiriakou said it was clear to him that when Libby “entered the room” on June 10, 2003, he had already known that Plame was an undercover operative. However, Libby claimed that he first learned about Plame’s status and the fact that she was married to Ambassador Wilson after Kiriakou sent his email.” TruthoutWhatever happened in that room in June 2003, whomever told whomever, the plan was set in motion to make Amb. Wilson pay for sticking his nose in their “Yellow Cake from Niger” story. And the “heoric” John Kiriakou was there right in the middle of it when the decision was made. In fact, he is on record sending out a memo to the agency to get information on Joe Wilson and his trip to Niger. So without Kiriakou, Plame would not have been outed.

His portrait has been added to the collection titled “Americans Who Tell the Truth” along side Eugene Debs, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King and Noam Chomsky to name just a few.
At his sentencing hearing, he lied some more:
Kiriakou said he would head to prison “accepting responsibility for my actions and hoping that maybe the country is better and more informed and more transparent for the debate I helped to initiate.” He said he never gained anything personally for what he’s said publicly.
“I believe I was prosecuted not for what I did but for who I am: a CIA officer who said torture was wrong and ineffective and went against the grain,” Kiriakou said.” Huffington PostNeed I remind you he got a job at ABC News for his efforts as a paid CIA Mockingbird and had this to say years ago about his statement that helped the CIA and the torture supporters back when it mattered: “Mr. Kiriakou told MSNBC that he was willing to talk in part because he thought the C.I.A. had “gotten a bum rap on waterboarding.”

His wife Heather is a former National Intelligence Fellow from the Council on Foreign Relations who likes to give talks to the Strategic Intelligence Society at Liberty University about the great jobs those guys can get at the CIA. That’s the same place Ollie North likes to give speeches.

There’s a long list of great fascists who also speak at Liberty U. “Presidential candidate John McCain, President Ronald Reagan, President George H. W. Bush, Rev. Billy Graham, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, Lt. Col. Oliver North” just to name a few.

UPDATE: They are making a movie about him. Good thing the government gave him plenty of time for the filming before he was sent “down the river” (and by “down the river” I mean, “sent to Saudi Arabia for another assignment for a couple of months”). You can watch the trailer. It’s filled with touching images of him standing in the Jefferson Memorial looking longingly up at the statue and him stocking shelves at Walmart while he claims he can’t get a job (then why is he pictured stocking shelves?).

Why are they celebrating a man who by all accounts is knee deep in the Global Free Market Wars being waged for his mergers and acquisitions clients (again, this “hero” was running that business helping the mergers and acquisitions sharks loot other countries while his wife was a leading analyst for the CIA. Do you think maybe that helped him sell a few contracts?)?

First I have to tell you a story. A story about torture, lies and 9/11 and how a CIA corporatist shill hoodwinked the left into turning him into a hero.

Years ago the 9/11 Commission Report claimed that Osama bin Laden planned and carried out the 9/11 attacks. The vast majority of the “evidence” they cited to come to that conclusion was the testimony garnered from Abu Zubaydah, Khlaid Sheik Mohammed and Rasmi bin Alshibh by the CIA after extensive water-boarding and other torture techniques.

It was all a lie.
When asked by the Commission to view the recording of the confessions from these three men, the CIA said “no”.
When asked if they could talk to them instead, the CIA said “no” for reasons of national security.
When asked if they could view an interview through one-way glass the CIA said “no”.
When asked if they could talk directly to the men who did the interviews, the CIA said “no”.
When demanded by court to turn over the videos of the men “confessing” after being tortured, the CIA illegally and maliciously destroyed all the tapes.

Today we know what the 9/11 Commission should have known at the time and that is everything they were told by the CIA which formed the basis for their deeply flawed 9/11 Commission Report, were lies. Pure and simple.

Kevin Ryan has written an outstanding series of articles on the subject of the now flailing legitimacy of the Commission Report based on the fact that everyone who is anyone knows Abu Zubaydah was never in “al Qaeda”, never an associate of “al Qaeda”, never trained with them never had contact with them.

The Commission Report claims “Zubaydah each played key roles in facilitating travel for al Qaeda operatives,” and that “Zubaydah had been a major figure in the millenium plots.” . It claimed he was “long-time ally of Bin Ladin,” a “Bin Ladin lieutenant,” and an “al Qaeda lieutenant.” who “helped operate a popular terrorist training camp near the border with Pakistan”

All of this information was garnered through torture sessions that the CIA did all they could to keep from the commissioners.
As Ryan points out:
In an amazing turnabout in 2009, an attorney for Zubaydah wrote in The Guardian that the majority of the accusations against Zubaydah were understood by all parties to be false. In fact, he wrote, they “were known to be false when uttered.“ [2] Attorney Brent Mickum said that his client, said to be the “number three man in al Qaeda,” was never a member or associate of al Qaeda and that — “These facts really are no longer contested: [Zubaydah] was not, and never had been, a member of either the Taliban or al-Qaida. The CIA determined this after torturing him extensively.” In fact, he “was never a member or a supporter of any armed forces that were allied against the United States,” and he was never the “head of a military camp that trained terrorists. That allegation is false at all levels.”
It turns out that Mickum’s report was correct and that “Abu Zubaydah’s supposed relationship with al-Qaida is a complete myth.” [3]” Kevin RyanRyan goes on in a follow-up article to show how Lee Hamilton, former vice-chairman of the 9/11 Commission, did everything he could in a recent interview to downplay the significance of this troubling development. He writes about how Lee pretends to not even know who Zubaydah was (is) and suggests it doesn’t matter anyway.
“I’m a little fuzzy on this but the information that we had from him was not critical to our report.” Lee HamiltonAs Ryan points out, Zubaydah was mentioned more than 50 times in the 9/11 Commission report referencing more than 9 of his torture sessions. None of which are documented in anyway other than by the say-so of the CIA operatives who tortured him.

This is the basis of the Commission Report.

After the Commission Report came out, stuff started coming to the surface regarding the torture techniques used to garner it’s “evidence”. Then along came a spider….

On December 10, 2007, CIA agent John Kiriakou came forward on ABC “News” and stated that Zubaydah “confessed” after only one “30 second” torture session. He acted as if he were an “inside man” with direct, first-hand knowledge of that interrogation.
“From that day on, he answered every question,” Kiriakou said. “The threat information he provided disrupted a number of attacks, maybe dozens of attacks.” Foreign Policy 2010This was another lie. In fact, it was several lies. It is well known at this point (and had been pointed out by “conspiracy theorists” at the time) that Zubaydah had in fact been water-boarded more than 80 times and KSM even more than that. That was the first lie.

The second lie was that Kiriakou himself had absolutely no first-hand knowledge of this at all. He admitted as much in his book on the second to the last page. Furthermore, he wasn’t even in the same country when it was taking place.
“I wasn’t there when the interrogation took place; instead, I relied on what I’d heard and read inside the agency at the time.”
… Kiriakou “was not actually in the secret prison in Thailand where Mr. Zubaydah had been interrogated but in the C.I.A. headquarters in Northern Virginia” Foreign Policy 2010The results of his ABC “News” were immediate and widespread. The “pro-torture” zealots used his statement to the fullest claiming “torture works” which is about the same thing that the CIA written “Zero Dark Thirty” says.

Kiriakou had no insight into the torture sessions. He wasn’t relating “water-cooler talk” to ABC “News”. He was deliberately spreading disinformation to the country in order to help gin-up support for the unsupportable position of torturing bullshit confessions out of innocent people.
This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. The CIA has been TEACHING torture techniques to far-right wing dictators and their death-squads for decades.
Decades.

There is something about fascism and torture that seem to go hand in hand. Once you abandon the human in you and view every other human being as cattle, then it’s pretty much a given that things like torture and mass murder and terrorism are “on the table” if they will provide you with something you want be it a location of a meeting of catholic priests standing against the El Salvadorian junta or the fake evidence linking bin Laden to 9/11.

The fact that at a crucial moment in our recent history, the moment when our collective moral compass was to be set one way or the other, this guy came forward and LIED THROUGH HIS TEETH to the advantage of the CIA and torture in general, seems to be lost on Code Pink and other related “lefties” out there.

- March 28, 2002, Kiriakou claims to have led a raid in which Abu Zubaydah was captured
- senior manager in Big Four accounting firm Deloitte & Touche’s competitive intelligence practice
- a terrorism consultant for ABC News from September 2008 until March 2009
- worked on John Kerry’s committee as senior investigator focusing on the Middle East, international terrorism, piracy, and counter-narcotics issues
He left the Committee in 2011 to become managing partner of Rhodes Global Consulting, and an Arlington, Virginia-based political risk analysis firmWhat does Rhodes do? They provide mergers and acquisitions companies detailed information on how to literally suck the life out of the countries that the U.S. “liberates” in their Global Free Market Wars. That’s what they do.

Yet there we have Code Pink and other idiots dancing around him on the day before he goes “to jail” for doing exactly what the CIA told him to do, lie about Abu Zubaydah and 9/11 by extension.

We all know that Code Pink has always been about controlled opposition (They undertake cheap publicity stunts...without comprehensively moving the argument forward....it contains Jews), but this takes it to a whole new level. Dancing around this fraud and acting as if he were a hero for lying to us about torture is remarkable. It’s disgusting and sickening, but remarkable none-the-less.
