Western-Backed “Arab Spring” Leads to Persecution of Christians
Christians jailed, tortured, killed in Egypt, Libya, Syria

Christians across the Middle East and North Africa are now being persecuted and tortured as a result of the western-backed “Arab Spring” that has allowed extremist Muslims to seize power and impose a sectarian crackdown.
Whereas Christians were relatively free to practice
their faith and preach under the rule of leaders like Hosni Mubarak,
Muammar Gaddafi and Bashar Al-Assad, the new regimes that have emerged
in Egypt, Libya and now Syria have made the subjugation of Christians a
centerpiece of their agenda.
A new report out of Egypt reveals how,
“Islamic hard-liners stormed a mosque in suburban Cairo, turning it
into torture chamber for Christians who had been demonstrating against
the ruling Muslim Brotherhood in the latest case of violent persecution
that experts fear will only get worse.”
This is merely the latest of innumerable examples where
Coptic Christians have been ordered by the country’s new Muslim
Brotherhood rulers to accept radical Islam or face death.
Christian churches in Egypt have been targeted with car bombs as worshippers face daily threats of rape, torture and intimidation.
“It’s not the first time. This is happening every day,”
said Adel Guindy, president of Coptic Solidarity and a member of Egypt’s
Coptic community who travels between Paris and Cairo. “This one
incident caught the attention of the news agencies, but there are worse
things happening to the Christians every day in Egypt,” he said.
Meanwhile, after the NATO-backed overthrow of Gaddafi in Libya, citizens are being jailed and tortured to death for “proselytizing” Christianity in Benghazi, one of numerous examples of persecution that were rare under the previous regime.
Libyan Christians are being treated similarly to blacks, who since the rebel uprising have been rounded up in their thousands, detained and tortured to death in prison camps merely on the accusation that they worked for Gaddafi, in a barbarous act of ethnic cleansing
In Syria, Christians have been forced to flee the
country in droves – 80,000 from the area of Homs alone – as NATO-backed
rebels ransack and blow up churches.
As the London Independent highlighted in
a report last year, Christians are “facing persecution and death” from
radical Islamists who have made clear their plan to impose Sharia law
and eliminate anyone who doesn’t ascribe to their extremist doctrine.
According to Archbishop Issam John Darwish, “an influx
of jihadists in the rebels,” has led to Christians being targeted for
torture and death. In one incident a young Christian named Andrei
Arbashe was beheaded by rebels and fed to the dogs.
Human Rights Watch reports that Syrian rebels have burned and looted the religious sites of minorities.”
“The destruction of religious sites is furthering
sectarian fears and compounding the tragedies of the country, with tens
of thousands killed,” said Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East director of
the US-based rights group.
Why are western nations supposedly founded on Christian
principles eagerly supporting an “Arab spring” that has made persecution
of Christians a priority across the region?
