Egypt-Israel peace accords
Egypt's new Minister of Defence is Abdel
Fatah El-Sisi.

Nuland, acknowledging that Lt.
Gen. Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi is someone 'we do know well, who we’ve
worked with in the past and who has had training
in the United States.'
"In addition to having met with top Obama
administration officials, Lt.
Gen. el-Sissi participated in a basic training course at Fort
Benning, Ga., during the early 1980s."
"Panetta noted that the new
defense chief, Lt. Gen. Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi expressed his commitment
to the Egypt-Israel peace accords."
Sedky Sobhy sees al Qaeda as an
enemy of the USA.
Egypt's new Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces is Sedky Sobhy
Sedky Sobhy, while a student at the U.S. Army War College, wrote that the USA should try harder to adhere to principles of justice and international law.
Sobhy wrote:
"The popular perception that the United States truly adheres to principles of justice and international law not only will undermine the ideological base of extremist Islamic groups such as Al Qaeda, but it will also strengthen the cooperative anti-terrorist struggle that is waged by the U.S. and Arab Middle East governments.
"Under such circumstances, the presence of U.S. military forces in the Middle East will become increasingly unnecessary." (The Arabist...)
In other words, Sobhy will not admit that
(1) al Qaeda works for the CIA
(2) the USA is not keeping troops in the Middle East in order to fight al Qaeda.
Either Sobhy is being dishonest, or he is being utterly naive.
Sobhy wrote:
"The present United States administration’s public pronouncements about the ‘march of democracy’ in the Middle East must be contrasted with the U.S. strategic interests regarding stability in the region...
"The process of democratization must be handled carefully so that in and of itself does not result in the undesirable state of political and social instability."
That must include religious legitimacy, Sobhy said.
He said U.S. officials didn’t fully appreciate how much Islam must be incorporated into a democratic system.
“The Islamic religion is strongly interlinked to various degrees with the functioning of most Arab governments and their respective societies,” he said.

The Jerusalem Post's Yaakov Lappin quoted one unnamed Israeli military source saying:
"The new guys come from the same place as their predecessors. The new appointments grew up in an Egyptian army that received U.S. assistance. They will also receive U.S. cash."
