Creating Good outcomes, from the tragedy.
If the present Mumbai tragedy is used to create greater regional cooperation in fighting terrorism, within the context of SAARC, then this is PROGRESS.
If the present Mumbai tragedy is used in creating lasting regional organizational instruments in a joint capacity, fighting terrorism in South Asia between India, Pakistan and other SAARC members, answerable and funded by both countries than this is progress.
If the present Mumbai tragedy is used to root out Islamic fundamentalism in Pakistani society begun under General Zia-ul-Haq 30 years ago with active British and American encouragement, then this is progress.
If the present Mumbai tragedy is used to dismantle ISI/Pak military linkages with Islamic fundamentalism begun 30 years ago with British and American encouragement, then this is progress.
If the present Mumbai tragedy is used to dismantle the corrupting influence of Madrasses in Pakistan, some of which peddle extremist agendas, and replace them with state funded government education, then this is progress.
If the present Mumbai tragedy is used to question the role of Saudi Wahabi funding of Muslim organizations and Madrasses in Pakistan, then this is progress.
However.........
If the present Mumbai tragedy is used to point fingers at Pakistan solely, without providing a clear forum for Pakistan to answer the allegations, and the evidence supplied to the Pakistani authorities of the terrorists originating from Pakistan, then this is not progress.
If the present Mumbai tragedy is used by India to show who is more powerful, diplomatically and militarily, making unwarranted demands first without the courtesy of evidence to Pakistani authorities, and show to Pakistan who has more "friends"internationally, isolating Pakistan in a difficult situation in her history, then this is not progress.
If the present Mumbai tragedy is used falsely to accuse Pakistan, when ALL the evidence points to RSS/Israeli involvement, and India does not pursue the domestic extremists of Hindu background and the work of Hemant Kakare, then this episode is sure to repeat itself in the future since the real perpetrators will feel that they have gotten away with it. Then most clearly this is not progress.
If the present Mumbai tragedy is used by some to create politics in India based on religious chauvinism, and an attempts are made to create an American/British style security state which benefit certain elite groups in India, then this clearly is not progress.
