The city of Allepo is 5000 years old.
It is Syria's largest city, and also the largest in the Levant with a population of 2,100,000.
It is the main commercial hub of Syria.
the name Halab (and consequently Aleppo) derives from the Aramaic word Halaba which means "white", referring to the color of soil and marble abundant in the area. The name Aleppo is an old Roman designation of the city. It is a beautiful city rich with history, culture and architecture, both Islamic and pre-Islamic.
.
Aleppo thus has become the strategic battle ground where al-Qaeda controls the East of the city, and the hinterland around it, and the Syrian government controls the Western portion of the city, where an estimated 1,500,000 of the former population still subsist in terrible appalling conditions. 300,000 in the 'al-Qaeda' portion.
.
Once the government forces win against al-Qaeda in Aleppo, the CIA destabilisation game is essentially over for ISIS and al-Qaeda in the rest of the country. The city like Stalingrad thus holds symbolic importance that pits the USA and its allies against the Syrian government and its allies.
.
To prevent the collapse of al-Qaeda in Aleppo, the Erdogan government sent the Turkish army to invade a portion of Northern Syria, near Aleppo illegally with American air-cover to reinforce the supply routes for failing ISIS and al-Qaeda in Aleppo specifically.
.
Near Aleppo, to the North East, Jarabulus is the key supply hub in Syria for ISIS and al-Qaeda and the Turkish military have basically secured that city for them.
.
The Americans don't want a peace settlement and compromise until Assad is ousted.(CIA, Pentagon)
.
And of course they won't accept a victorious Assad regime, after 5 years of hard fighting and destabilization using Islamists Jihadis mainly from Turkey.

Russian DM: US Should Think of Consequences Before Attacking Syrian Army
.
by Jason Ditz, at antiwar.com
Russia’s Defense Ministry was quick to urge caution today, noting that they’d recently deployed air defense systems into Syria specifically to counter the threat of US attack, and that the US should “carefully” consider the potential consequences of launching such strikes.
The State Department acknowledged they were aware of the Russian warning, but insistedthat internal discussion within the US government continues on the “non-diplomatic” options, which is to say, starting a war with Russia. Spokesman John Kirby added there would be no discussion with Russia over the matter.
Kirby added that the US was not “giving up” on Aleppo, and was continuing to discuss options to prevent the Syrian government from capturing the remainder of the city, which is held by al-Qaeda’s Nusra Front. This appears to be fueling much of the rhetoric on Russia.
