Declaration of Martial law was the correct decision, in light of current events in the country. Just because the Americans, the British, the Commonwealth with the EU are calling for the lifting of Martial law by itself does not validate the claim that martial law should be lifted. All it shows is that there is a concerted effort by the ‘West’ to introduce democracy into Pakistan at this juncture and there is something going on here which is not to Pakistan advantage. The elections on 8th January (8/1 thank you!) I personally feel is doomed to fail, because of the leading players involved or otherwise in this drama.
Even if they manage to get Communist dictatorship China, or Singapore to join the queue in calling for democracy in Pakistan it still doesn’t validate the argument. Nobody is telling Bangladesh to democratize asap, so why this urgency by the Americans at this juncture in relation to Pakistan? What are they up to?
You have got to know yourself better than others, and 60 years after independence if you still rely on Washington saab's to guide you on key state issues than you are doomed to fail.
