Naom Chomsky's take on Af/Pak

Noam Chomsky: ‘The US Does Not Care About Pakistan’

By Rabia Mehmood of the "Express Tribune" story reprinted in Information Clearing House

Professor Noam Chomsky sits on the eighth floor of the quirky-looking Stata Center of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, US. Former head of the linguistics department, the author and intellectual now serves as Professor Emeritus at the university.

The man is known worldwide for his incredibly popular and polarizing criticism of American foreign policy.

“The US doesn’t care about Pakistan, just like the Reagan administration didn’t care about either Afghanistan or Pakistan,” says Chomski, when asked how he sees the relationship between Pakistan and the US. “They supported Zia, the worst dictator in Pakistan’s history, and pretended they didn’t know that Pakistan was developing nuclear weapons. So basically they supported Pakistan’s nuclear weapon program and radical Islamisation in their bid to defeat the Russians. And that has not helped Pakistan.”

(Failed state Pakistan does need nuclear weapons, as much as the collapsed Soviet Union did not need its huge arsenal. Pakistan also does not need 500,000 Islamic Fundies all over the country operating under the guidance of the ISI.....Chomsky is absolutely correct when he says the USA oversaw Pakistan's Islamic Fundamentalist expansion from the late 1970's as part of "Operation Cyclone" and "Operation Green belt")

According to Chomsky, the reason the Pak-US relationship hasn’t worked is because the concern of US planners is not the welfare of Pakistan, it’s the welfare of their own constituency. “But it’s not the people of US either, just the powerful sectors within the US,” he said. “If the US policy towards Pakistan happens to benefit Pakistan it would be kind of accidental. Maybe it will to some extent, but that is not the purpose.”

Chomsky believes Pakistan has serious internal problems but says there are solutions.

(All Pakistan's national problems are solvable, through effective policies implemented by strong civilian governments only)

But, he insists, these problems have to be solved from within instead of from outside. “These problems have to be dealt with inside Pakistan, and not by the US; providing them with massive military aid, carrying out drone strikes, which enrages the population rightly,” he says. “Drone attacks are target assassinations and therefore a crime. Whether they are militants or not, these people are being targeted because the US doesn’t like them. Targeted assassination is an international crime. United Nations’ special rapporteur Philip Alston, a very respected international lawyer, came out with a report which simply says that it is a criminal act.”

(regardless, most of the victims of these drone strikes are civilians; of the 1500 deaths so far, fewer than 80 maybe actually be Taliban....a costly callous somewhat racist way to fight insurgency in Afghanistan)

He also supports the 1973 constitution and believes it is suitable for Pakistan. “It looks sensible on paper. It provided a degree of autonomy within a federalized system, which makes sense for a country like Pakistan,” he says. “Devoting resources to education, development and not military will help.”

Relationship with India

Speaking about Pakistan’s relationship and outlook towards India, he said that the Pakistani military has a strategic doctrine that they have to have a military presence in Afghanistan to counter India. “That’s a losing proposition because Pakistan cannot compete with India in terms of military force.

(India's PPP economy is between $4,000 ---4,500 billion, and Pakistan's economy about $460 billion.....a world of difference. Much more logical for Pakistan to cooperate and work with India, and share its success, as a responsible good neighbor constructively,... and realign itself in the region...so that it can effectively meet ALL the challenges its faces in the West in Baluchistan, and the NWFP, otherwise its a case of having both feet in two different boats as a failed state)

Besides, the strategic position in Afghanistan doesn’t really mean anything in case of a war,” he says. “Pakistan has undoubtedly supported terrorist groups in Kashmir and terrorism in India, which has made the situation worse.”

(Exactly!......what does strategic depth really mean besides sounding great? Offered originally to Pakistan by the USA GOOD BUDDY in 1994 as a clever idea. "Strategic depth" does not/will not make Pakistan militarily stronger. A Taliban controlled Afghanistan isn't going to make Pakistan significantly more powerful, or more secure viz India. Yes Pakistan may have the prestige of "controlling Afghanistan" through the Taliban, but failed state das Pakistan with its own multiple problems within its own borders, is hardly in a position to make significant economic, social, political, military gains in additional territory, when it FAILS to exploit the full potential of its existing territory through effective governance. In fact Afghanistan as a vassal state of Pakistan may produce more resource draining problems than it solves....as it has done for the JEWSA imperium, Soviet Imperium, British Imperium......Psychopath allies straight out of the medieval era such as Mullah Omer, Hekmatyar, and Haqqani which the Pakistan military passionately love, and whom they hope will rule Afghanistan, under Pakistan guidance.........is an impossibility, as much as the JEWSA relying on the Narco Mafia criminal elements to "rule" the Afghan Heroin plantation for them.....can't/won't work..EVER)

Afghan war’s future

“It is a complicated situation but I think there is good evidence that the US military and political structures recognize that they cannot have a military victory,” Chomsky says.

(What is there to win? "AL-Qaeda" is gone; the Taliban is gone....save for SOME angry Pashtun's who feel disenfranchised in the new Afghanistan......but thats not a grievance for the USA to solve, OR FIGHT AGAINST.....in Afghanistan, or in Pakistan with drones.....there are 40 million Pashtun's in Af/Pak...they have a right to be top dog in Afghanistan, as it has always been. The USA cannot remake this fact)

However, he says, they [US] can conquer whatever they like, but the Russians also won every battle in the 1980s but eventually lost the war. “The Americans are therefore trying to find a way to extricate themselves in some fashion, that it can be presented as a victory. They don’t want to admit they’ve lost the war, like the Russians.”

(Declare mission accomplished and fuck off home to the USA)

Unclji hit me again: The strange and sad state of Pak/USA relations

.
.
.
.
One shifts from disdain mixed with frustration to sad pity when one reads about Pakistan.

180 million people living in a failed state number das, defacto run by the military who in turn take orders from the USA.

63 years of utter failure and misery for people in East Pakistan, Baluchistan, NWFP and eventually of course in the Punjab.

The main problem is the Pakistani military. If there was no Pakistani military Pakistan would be a great country. Every major problem in the country can be traced back to the Pakistan military.

Quite why still some in the Pakistan military want to claim the whole of Kashmir defies belief, after the failure of East Pakistan, Baluchistan and now NWFP, as failed state number das.

Quite why chamars from the Poooonjab still yearn for "Strategic Depth", over the whole of Afghanistan using mad unstable fundies defies belief. As if Arriana Afghanistan could ever be controlled by Harijans from the Punjab, especially after the failure of East Pakistan, Baluchistan and now NWFP, as failed state number das.

After 63 years don't these idiots get it? What planet of hope do they exist on? Regular Pep talks from visiting American military officers?

They know better?

We mustn't pass without mentioning the Powerless civilian politicians and "leaders" who rubber stamped Chamar chain smoking Kiyani's appointment illegally recently. This is what Washington wanted after all.

Zardari is a certified crook with $3 billion looted from state coffers stashed in off shore accounts. Everybody in Pakistan knows it, and hence he was never liked by the nation or even his own Party. But he enjoys American backing, and that is enough for his Presidency. The Pakistan military like him because he is a weak leader with no power, lacking popular support/mandate/legitimacy. Zardari provides a "Democracy veil" for the Pakistan military, whilst they continue on with business as usual. The great benefit of Zardari for the Pakistan military is that a SUBSTANTIAL portion of national failure can be apportioned to him, even though Zardari exercises very little real strategic power within/without Pakistan.

Zardari bhen understands this, and is only in it for the money.

To date 1500 Pakistanis have died from floods during the monsoon, and many more may die. Any normal leader, an average leader, not a great leader, a reasonable leader might want to be "with his people" in their hour of grief and need.

Organizing relief. Organizing refugee camps. Meeting the victims of floods. Showing, sharing, sorrow and remorse.

Not Zardari Bhen.

Laughing ear to ear, he went off to Rothschild France to pay respects to the little Mossad Juif Sarkozy, and then on to Rothschilds UK to pay his respects. OBVIOUSLY the man is a certified puppet of the USA. ONLY foreign owned puppets behave this way.

How can 180 million self respecting Pakistanis tolerate his behavior?

Zardari after all is a mere sponge, soaking up the animosity directed at the government and the "ruling class". Though one should cough and remember that the Pakistani military is Harijan Middle class.

The MAIN PROBLEM as it has been since Laiquat Ali Khan's assassination in 1951 is the Pakistan military assuming civilian power; Thinking that they know better than everybody else; implementing completely disastrous policies within/without Pakistan; Propagating friendship with Jew dominated USA which has been a disaster for Pakistan AND finally lacking the powers of REFLECTION and Circumspection......stock taking of the deep strategic kind......nothing doing for these filthy Harijans.

Pakistan due entirely to the military is between the proverbial rock and hard place now.

Its a slow motion train crash, and every passenger in the country save the "Strategic Depth" middle class Harijan military officer corps can't see the Abyss in the near horizon. They can't grasp the fact that Pakistan is a failed state number das. They can't grasp the fact that their policies fundamentally is destroying the country, just as it did in 1971. These "Strategic Depth" cowards can't face up to the truth of the real situation.

Pakistan cannot continue like this, any kuta with no education knows this. The American aid might buy some politicians and military officers, BUT the money is not enough to cover the real costs of such policies against Pakistan. The guesstimates of the costs to Pakistan of the current MILITARY policies runs any where between $45 billion-----$65 billion.

This is unsustainable. No nation can sustain such costs. Not even a Marshal plan from the USA will help because the level of governance is too weak and corrupt for the extra funds to be effectively used.

The only solution is for Pakistan to step out of this hamsters treadmill.

Wikileaks Docs Target Pakistan.

By Kurt Nimmo at Infowars.com

Not long after Wikileaks dumped tens of thousands of classified Afghanistan “war” documents into the public arena for consumption, the corporate media zoomed in on Pakistan. “WikiLeaks documents released Sunday shine a spotlight on Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence, a spy agency that has been accused for years of having links to terrorist groups,” writes the Wall Street Journal.

“In the reports, the retired general [Hamid Gul] and former head of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) from 1987 to 1989 is accused of ordering IED attacks against Afghan and international forces in December 2006 and of plotting to kidnap United Nations staff to use as hostages in exchange for militant prisoners,” reports the Christian Science Monitor. “The ISI is mentioned in at least 190 reports, and is accused of backing attacks against US and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) forces in Afghanistan.”

Demonizing Pakistan and Gul play right into the Pentagon’s script as the puppet Barry Obama expands the “war” in Afghanistan and sends drones armed with Hellfire missiles into Pakistan’s tribal areas to kill a never-ending cast of intelligence created bad guys.

It is also highly suspicious the documents appeared a couple days after the Bilderberg-attending globalist and Rockefeller minion Richard Holbrooke, who is Obama’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, said “links between the ISI and the Taliban are a problem.” Holbrooke readily linked the Taliban with the mythical al-Qaeda, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and the Haqqani network.

The Pakistan connection eluded to in the documents also underscore the attempt by the U.S. to put Gul and three other former ISI officials on the United Nations’ international terrorist list.

Holbrooke, of course, did not bother to mention that Pakistan’s support for Lashkar-e-Taiba was signed off on by the American Intelligence. French investigating magistrate Jean-Louis Bruguiere said as much last year.

The founder of the Haqqani network, Jalaluddin Haqqani, was involved in the American Intelligence-ISI effort in Afghanistan against the Soviet Union. The Afghan was cultivated as a “unilateral” asset of American Intelligence and received tens of thousands of dollars in cash, according to an account in The Bin Ladens, a book by Steve Coll. Haqqani helped and protected the infamous American Intelligence asset Osama bin Laden. He was subsequently named military commander for another American Intelligence contrivance, the Taliban.

Earlier this month Senate fixture Carl Levin called for stepping up attacks inside Pakistan. Levin specifically mentioned the Haqqani network and said the group “directly” threatens the “mission” in Afghanistan.

Both al-Qaeda and the Taliban are AMERICAN INTELLIGENCE assets. The Taliban emerged from madrassas established by the Pakistani government along the Afghanistan border and funded by the U.S., Britain, and the Saudis. The creation of the Taliban was “actively encouraged by the ISI and the American Intelligence,” according to Selig Harrison, an expert on U.S. relations with Asia, a fact affirmed by Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher.

“Between 1994 and 1996, the USA supported the Taliban politically through its allies Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, essentially because Washington viewed the Taliban as anti-Iranian, anti-Shia, and pro-Western. Between 1995 and 1997, US support was even more driven because of its backing for the Unocal [pipeline] project,” writes Ahmed Rashid, a long-time expert on Pakistan and Afghanistan.

In 2009, appearing before a congressional hearings on the Obama administration’s foreign policy, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton admitted the U.S. created the Taliban. “Let’s remember here… the people we are fighting today we funded them twenty years ago… and we did it because we were locked in a struggle with the Soviet Union,” said Clinton.

Following Clinton’s remarks, Pakistani president Asif Ali Zardari told NBC News the ISI and the American Intelligence worked together to create the Taliban. “I think it was part of your past and our past, and the ISI and the American Intelligence created them [the Taliban] together,” said Zardari.

The Taliban conquered Afghanistan with the avid assistance of the ISI and American Intelligence. According to files at one European intelligence agency, the Taliban received “strong military training, not only by the Pakistani services, but also by American military advisers working under humanitarian cover” and were provided with “satellite information giving the secret locations of scores of Soviet trucks that contain vast amounts of arms and ammunition.”

Hamid Gul became the head of Pakistan’s ISI at the behest of the American Intelligence. Gul was a favorite of American Intelligence Station Chief Milt Bearden and U.S. ambassador to Pakistan Arnie Raphel, who viewed him as an ally and a potential national leader of Pakistan. Bearden would later claim that Gul wandered off the reservation and the corporate media would ultimately accuse him of complicity in the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Support and funding for the Taliban continues to the present day. In June, Rep. Dennis Kucinich accused the Pentagon of funding the Taliban. “Our troops are dying in Afghanistan, and now it turns out we may be funding their killers,” Kucinich told Raw Story. “The American people are paying to prop up a corrupt government that may be using our money to pay private companies to drum up business by paying the insurgents to attack our troops,” he said.

In addition, the U.S. has paid the Taliban to not attack convoys in the country. “A congressional investigation revealed that millions of dollars spent by the US military for security purposes has inadvertently gone into the pockets of the Taliban,” Aljazeera reported on June 23.

“Welcome to the wartime contracting bazaar in Afghanistan,” writes Aram Roston. “It is a virtual carnival of improbable characters and shady connections, with former American Intelligence officials and ex-military officers joining hands with former Taliban and mujahedeen to collect US government funds in the name of the war effort.”

Afghanistan is America’s longest war for good reason — it is highly profitable for the military-industrial complex and provides an excuse for the government to maintain a foothold in central Asia while constructing a surveillance and control grid at home.

Pakistan is the new frontier of the Forever War on Manufactured Terror and the sudden appearance of tens of thousands of documents in part pointing a finger at the America’s junior partner in crime is highly suspicious to say the least, especially considering the America’s Intelligence fondness for patsies taking the fall.

In Serving US Interest, This Pakistani Govt. Is In A Class Of Its Own

AHMED QURAISHI.com

You must be hearing a lot these days from the apologists of expanded US influence in Pakistan that every government in the past has accepted humiliating US conditions.

(between 1950---1969 Pakistan received about $4 billion in USA aid, and at today's currency rate that could be about $25 billion; half for military and half for economic aid. Doubtless the aid was welcomed by the Pakistan military who were the main instigators of friendship with the USA from the early 1950's......because it gave them, confidence viz India with the new American arms, which the Pakistan military subsequently used against India in 1965...if you remember.

Field Marshal Ayub Khan of the Pakistan Military was one of the first and most enthusiastic initiators of friendship with the USA. However over time he became very cynical when he experienced the reality of "co-operation" with the USA...Why do you think he wrote the auto-biography, "Friends not Masters"? (1967) Clearly a man writing from first hand experience.

.....have a good look at the Pakistani military Ahmed beta, and see if you can see any American influence over them. Little details like name tags on their uniforms, which give you the clues as to who runs the Pakistani military as their regional slave soldiers.......where the senior officers are trained/indoctrinated (USA/UK)..........who runs the Taliban?........Who created the recent mess which killed 175 innocent Pakistanis in a short time, for specific agenda goals?........one surmises that it was elements within the Pakistan military acting on orders from the USA.........The Taliban has always been a proxy of the Pakistan military; their logistics is from the Pakistan military......the recent terrorist attacks generate sympathy for and around the Pakistan military as a national institution which ordinary Pakistanis can rely on, and for America, which further engages the Pakistan Taliban in an ceaseless war......that will also wear down the Pakistan military in Waziristan.

The recent terrorist attacks also deflect attention away from the failures of the present regime....and the public's focus to do something about the Taliban problem. So I think the recent spate of attacks in Pakistan were instigated by the supporters of the current regime, clearly interested in maintaining them in power, and as victims of terrorism.

The Indian army of the Raj was the great military tool which the British used around the globe to enforce the British empire. With independence and Partition that useful tool of the British Raj disappeared.......but not completely. In the case of the Pakistan military it continued to play that role, albeit in a more limited sense. The Indian military after independence was never allowed to play that role again for the British, given the strict control the Congress party exercised over the Indian military, and over all civilian control. The Pakistan military since 1947 has served as a proxy of British and later USA interests in the Middle East/Gulf region, and South Asia.

Once you "understand " the Pakistan military, you Ahmed Beta will understand Pakistan's problems much better. Its one thing for the Pakistan military to truly defend Pakistan in real situations of national threats, it is quite another for the Pakistan military to be used for the agenda's of gora powers from the other side of the world, against Pakistan's interests and the interests of Pakistan's neighbors.

Why did the Pakistan military back Jundallah against Iran. Because America told them to? Is that it? How does that fundamentally benefit Pakistan the nation; the neighbor of Iran.

Why did the Pakistan military back the Taliban against Afghanistan from 1994?

Why does the Pakistan military back insurgency groups against India.)

In fact, on Wednesday, government's PR wizards working under the direction of the PPP media team published a preposterous propaganda piece on the front page of one of the national dailies alleging that, "Jinnah also appealed for US aid."

(Doubtful......in his short time as head of Pakistan, it is unlikely he developed close relations with Americans, he was an archetypal Anglophile, pre-occupied as he was with creating Pakistan. I do know however that he did try to get his hands on the Nizam of Hyderabad's wealth, who at that time was one of the richest men in the world, with an estimated personal wealth of $2 billion or more...which at today's prices would be around $220 billion?. The Muslim League's upper echelon were not that concerned with taking the begging bowl to the USA, again because most of them were products of Mackauley's Brown Sahibs Anglophiles, however after Liaqat Ali Khan's assassination in 1951, the Pakistan military with urgings from senior British officers became more enthusiastic about courting the USA, and a source of arms which would counter balance the power of India in South Asia.)

The government media team is keen to convince Pakistanis that humiliating foreign conditions on aid are kosher because that is what previous Pakistani governments have been doing. Shamelessly, even the Quaid-e-Azam has been dragged into this government propaganda.

(There is no solid proof that foreign aid actually helps a country economically in the long run. In poor failed states foreign aid often becomes a political tool of the rich country rather than as a real economic assistance to help the whole nation.

......AND people keep telling me Pakistan is poor and in need of aid, but is it really that poor? Its GDP must be close to $500 billion, measured by PPP...of which only $300 billion PPP probably belongs to the registered official economy...and of which only $50 billion PPP is covered by the national budget. Perhaps $150---$300 billion PPP of Pakistan's wealth is abroad under capital flight as a result of the actions of the corrupt disloyal elite....Tamindars/Zamindars............the 30 Business families and the military multi-millionaires.....when you look at that overall economic scenario Pakistan is rich, and can be very rich if its own resources were put to good effective, efficient use.

It is in that sense, with the effective domestic mobilization of resources that foreign aid is both irrelevant, distorting and counter-productive, because they induce and bribe key government officers into making the wrong decisions which harm Pakistan's long term overall interests.)

While the record of previous governments is debatable, what's beyond doubt is that this is the first government in Pakistan that came through a 'deal' brokered by US and UK diplomats, whitewashing the illegal wealth of individuals who enjoy a dubious record. This has never happened before in the history of any Pakistani government.

(The regime of General Zia ul Haq which came to power with active American backing in 1977, could be described in many respects as similar to the current regime.....in fact worse, when you think of what they did overall in 11 years:

  • Primitive Islamisation of Pakistan society......which takes Pakistan backwards, rather than looking to the future progressively as a modern state.
  • The funding of Afghan mujaheddin of the worst Islamic type, instead of moderate Afghan's.
  • The creation of proxy internal SUNNI hardline Islamic groups, which wage jihad against Shia Pakistanis, Iran, and India, without proper control and supervision by the state.
  • The entry of Israeli intelligence and military personnel into Pakistan for the first time in the 1980's, who train some of the Mujaheddin, and become major players in the supply and control of the arms of ex-Soviet equipment to the Mujaheddin....Israel had stockpiles of it from the Arab/Israeli wars, and finally later become involved with supplying Pakistan parts for its nuclear program. The recruitment of Pakistani military officers to work for MOSSAD.......Busharaf being the most significant success for Israel, slowly being maneuvered into power as head of state in 1999.
  • The killing of political figures by the Pakistan military in Pakistan because it was suitable for the foreign powers.
  • The introduction of Islam into the military, and the promotion of an officers career based on his Islamic beard/tabligi credentials.....not smart.

In the overall scheme of things, spanning 11 years the Zia ul Haq military regime did more harm to Pakistan in surrendering the sovereignty of Pakistan to foreign hostile powers, MOSTLY INFORMALLY, in comparison to the current civilian criminal government of Zardari bhai, attempting to formally surrender. But at least as civilian government parliament is debating the big serious issues and the Pakistani public is getting a look-in {not under Zia, Busharaf}. The folly of the Zia ul Haq regime initially, has allowed foreign hostile powers subsequently to impose brazenly disadvantageous terms on Pakistan which will have negative effects on Pakistan's future...............the current set of demands by America merely formalizes what was set by Zia ul Haq informally before, originally in the 1970's. The Kerry/Lugar aid package is the product of 40 years of American experience with Pakistan, not yesterday, not merely by dealing with Zardari bhai only now. He has been power for little over one year)

I bet even the Americans have never seen before this kind of an 'easy' pro-US government in their decades-old record of meddling in other countries.

This alone should put to shame anyone who defends these shady characters in this government.

(The problem is not merely the civilians politicians, but that the civilian politicians are annexes, and part and parcel of the "game" of revolving doors where the military fuck it up yet again big time, or are simply removed because they have displeased their puppet masters, and the civilian politicians are brought in as time fillers, into power, until the military have recovered their confidence.

In that sense in this game of revolving doors of military/civilian, the main villain is the Pakistan military, as they are the most proactive group in Pakistani politics very often working in conjunction with hostile alien foreign powers.

It is very natural that Pakistanis must want to believe that there is something good in their society, an institution which is loyal to Pakistan.......that institution is not the Pakistan military however....it is the worst enemy of Pakistan. It is simply naive given clear historical facts to think otherwise.

Once ordinary Pakistanis have emotionally detached themselves from the Pakistani military (most Baluchis, Bengali's, Sindhi's, and a sizable portion Pashtuns already have) then the forces of true Pakistani nationalism can move forward. Expecting the Pakistani military to be arbiters and guarantors of Pakistan's sovereignty, ruling Pakistan in a judicious balanced way is BOTH naive and illogical.

The Pakistan military created the Afghan and Pakistan Taliban.....and they control these two organizations, as they did the FATA Taliban, on the advice of foreign hostile alien powers.

The Pakistan military often use the Taliban as a cover for their destabilization programs against AND WITHIN Pakistan, and civilian governments...which invariably results in the death of huge numbers of Pakistanis, both innocent civilians, and when the Pakistan military fight their own created monsters in the mountains of the NWFP, on the advice/orders of hostile alien powers.......a wholly stupid scenario.

The Pakistan military often conducts its large military operations ONLY because of pressure and "orders" from Washington, and not because they themselves believe whole heartedly that they are fighting and undertaking a just war against their own controlled and created monsters, the Pakistan Taliban, the Afghan Taliban.

Intellectual Pakistani Punjabis must drop their naive pretensions about their military........the Pakistani military is the main problem in Pakistan......the 1000 pound guerrilla in the room......a force of 800,000 backed by 300,000 paramilitary, which use's illegal force and violence within Pakistan, as de juere manual policy, declared and undeclared to carry out its objectives, very often at the behest of and guidance of hostile alien foreign entities.

Removing Zardari and his criminal clowns does not begin to address the real problems of Pakistan, but will merely be an useful start. As long as we don't think that some how removing Zardari will solve all Pakistan's problems, there after. After Zardari is removed, the military problem has to be solved. Zardari makes the military look good, but that is merely deceptive and not the reality. )

Pakistanis should rest assured of one thing. The challenge of governing Pakistan and subduing this nation in the service of a foreign agenda is a difficult task. It's above and beyond the intellectual capacity of the rulers in Islamabad today.

(The eternal struggle of many in Third World nations, not just Pakistan. Clearly the rulers of Pakistan, the Tamindars, Zamindars, the 30 business families and the military aren't doing their job...............Pakistan is failed state number 9, with a whole array of problems...socio-economic and political.

In that sense, with a holistic perspective of the reality of power in Pakistan, Pakistanis, just like millions of others around the Third World must struggle for their country, and its sovereignty, and its true development. Predatory powers such as the USA/UK will naturally attempt to undermine that, as they done so over so many decades.

The key in all this is Islamabad, the seat of power in Pakistan. One would like to see Pakistanis peacefully reoccupy Islamabad, .............{unlike the actions of the Pakistan Taliban carried out at the behest of the Pakistan military and their foreign masters to distract and defect from the real national issues and failings.....Zardari is corrupt puppet...sorry we must fight the Taliban first......America is taking over Pakistan....sorry we must fight the Taliban.....the economy is in a mess.....sory we must fight the Taliban first......etc}.....How does one get rid of an alien imposed government which displays clear criminal intent under Zardari........Zardari merely disappearing from media view will not solve the fundamental problems, but ONLY through people power, and the occupation and direct usurpation of power by the people peacefully can Pakistanis finally regain control of their country from the hostile alien powers.

PLEADING, BEGGING, RATIONALIZING, RIDICULING FOREIGN BACKED CRIMINALS WILL NOT GET PAKISTAN ANYWHERE. ONLY PEOPLE POWER ACTION IN ISLAMABAD will, PEACEFULLY.)

As the challenge mounts, these shady characters will run away abroad in a few months' time with their fat bank accounts and will never look back. They will leave and never look back sooner or later.

(The standard pattern......Shaukat Aziz in the USA....and all the rest to MOSSAD Busharaf waiting in London to see if his been "chosen" to lead Pakistan again........Altaf Hussain in London......Zardari will also go to his $ 10 million Surrey mansion London, and maybe meet up with MOSSAD Busharaf over tea at a five star hotel. So we know from the simple fact OF where the criminals run to, which are the true hostile alien powers in internal Pakistan politics since 1947....you don't have to be Einstein. Which are the true hostile alien powers which interfere with Pakistani politics to its long term detriment, who provide safe havens for these national criminals)

While criticizing this ruling class, we need to send a note of thank you to Mr. Musharraf for 'dealing' us this hand as a parting gift to the nation.

Pakistanis should recognize this distinction about the current Pakistani government in the debate over the record of past Pakistani rulers in dealing with Washington.

(No they shouldn't..............this is the fruit of a long process that began in 1954, when Mohammed Ali Bogra with Ayub Khan signed the Treaty with the USA in 1954 for military/economic aid, with the tacit encouragement of the UK in the background.............Zaradri is merely the last and worst fruition of a long on-going process which has been primarily aided by the PAKISTAN MILITARY)

The current government, in this debate, is in a class of its own.

Surrendering Sovereignty.

Surrendering Sovereignty to the USA, through CENTO, and India 1965..........then begging for equality and fair treatment from the USA, after all this in his book, "Friends not Masters"

That is a moot question, and very topical for Pakistan, especially given the fact that Pakistan is not a transparent state, but a FAILED one.

It was a failed state during the military, and certainly is a failed state now, under civilian rule. What we should not do is equate the Pakistani failed state with civilian Pakistani governments. The Pak military through their overt/covert involvement in Pak politics bare the main responsibility for this failure.

Surrendering to India 1971. For all the talk of blaming Mujib, India, Bhutto, Kissinger.......ultimately the Pakistani army top brass shares the main responsibility.

The process of losing Pakistani sovereignty began in 1954, when the Pakistani military signed a security agreement with the USA (Ayub/Bogra-----U2 flights into Soviet Union airspace illegally from Pakistani bases), and received $1 billion worth of military and economic aid. There is no such thing as a free lunch. Since that time its been down hill for the country........with an incremental loss of sovereignty through the actions of the Pakistan military mainly.

Surrendering at Kargil.

AND especially since 2001, and the events of 9/11 Pakistan's sovereignty has been further eroded. We do not know what is the full range of sovereignty Pakistan has surrendered to the USA. Musharaf the puppet of America was not open about this fact, and Zardari most certainly is not.

Musharaf's war against Sharif. 4,000 Pakistanis sacrificed.

In relation to such key security questions it is the prime responsibility of the Pakistan military.

Surrendering sovereignty to the USA. Fighting and killing Pakistanis, in the course of fighting the USA's fake bogus wars.

One must summarize that the greatest amount of sovereignty was lost under Musharaf.

The Pakistani military top brass have a history of surrendering to foreign countries for a few $, and more.
They are enemies of the state.

How Much Sovereignty Has Pakistan Conceded?

Forget about Shamsi airbase in Baluchistan. The Americans are using that one for Iran. There is an altogether different base for the drones in Baluchistan. It’s a Pakistani piece of land that no Pakistani knows what’s inside. In fact, Pakistani air defense personnel are stationed inside the Embassy compound in Islamabad where they ensure that drones fly safely to kill Pakistanis and return to the base unharmed.

(LET'S SEE NOW, ..................1) Pakistan operates insurgency bases against India/Kashmir. 2) Pakistan has unofficial bases which operate against Afghanistan, via the Taliban. 3) Pakistan has bases which operate against Iran {I must say the Iranian government is really being all very diplomatic and understanding about this....various deals with Pakistan government on the offing.} Does Pakistan have bases in the Northern areas which operate against China?....because that will complete the picture, Ah yes the Turkestan Liberation Movement..........................what kind of special retards do they select at Kakul? I'm not blaming the civilian politicians because this not their area...the Pak military solely decide on this area........but the point is you reap what you sow eventually .........the destruction of Pakistan)

It certainly did not take Holbrooke long to reveal his arrogant ignorance about Pakistan. Hysterical over the Swat agreement – clearly it undermines the U.S. efforts to expand the destabilization of Pakistan and thereby seek a rationale for sending troops into Pakistan and eventually targeting the country’s nuclear assets – he made some absolutely absurd remarks.

(Holbrooke is a Jew, a German Jew...who has adopted an Anglo-Saxon name for the sake of legitimacy within America, unlike Kissinger the other notorious German Jew.

In relation to the Swat Peace deal, was that really good for Pakistan? Really? To have a quasi-autonomous fundamentalist government inside Pakistan with its own Sharia law, so close to Wah/Taxila, Peshawar and Islamabad. Do you accept the army version of the story that their 12,000 well armed men could not handle 3,000 poorly armed Taliban? That the mighty Pakistan military machine of 800,000 men unofficially backed by 300,000 paramilitary can't deal with a mere 3,000 men? The story does not smell right, and as a security expert, should not smell right for you either)

First he chose to declare the 9/11 perpetrators as being similar to the Swat militants and to the groups of militants in FATA. Only his arrogance would push him into displaying such ignorance since we all know that the perpetrators of 9/11 were well-off Saudis educated in Western institutions (not madrassahs) and living in the West.

(Well there you go again Ms. Mazari. Its 2009, and there is considerable evidence to suggest that 19 Ay--raabs did not carry out 9/11. Now thats not me saying this but people in government, prominent politicians around the world, senior military and intelligence people.......so your generalization about the official narrative about 9/11 is a little basic.

I appreciate at an overt level Pakistan had a high powered role in 9/11 working for America, and you may wish to deflect from that and say 19 young Ay--rabs in their twenties mainly, after living and working with American security extensively, under total surveillance by Israeli security tailing them then went on to dumb found the vast sophisticated security apparatus of America and subsequently went on to carry out 9/11...........Ms Mazar never in the real world. In fact possibly no humans were on any planes that struck the various targets and that remote controlled planes, drones and cruise missiles hit the various targets.......remember NASA sends probes to Mars and guides them back all the way by remote control, so...

The 19 Ay-raabs did 9/11 is a cover story, maybe quite likely none of them even got on a plane, to throw the scent off American/Israeli security involvement in that sad episode using equipment "borrowed" from the American armed forces......blah blah blah....its all out there Ms. Mazar, so read a few of these sources......we had a coup in America by Israel in 2001 9/11, and their desire to fix America's future foreign agenda more clearly under a Israeli friendly president GWB, and pursue Israel's agenda's......To get the Pakistani nukes, occupy Pakistan...a real possibility around September 2001, and then the invasion of Iraq, and a couple of other Middle East countries until reality hit this ambitious Israeli program......BUT the ideas and people are still there especially NOW in Israel and America....so.

Ms Mazar you are a security analyst who takes pride in your profession.......... presumably, so clearly identify the policies behind 9/11, and why it happened. Alternative theories about 9/11 are not being written by just lonely 20 year olds, with nothing better to do, adding a bit of imagination to their analysis, but serious professional people from the inside of security have questioned in detailed sober analytical language, which say that the only "conspiracy theory" is the one offered by the USA government. Don't just throw up red herrings which confuse, and explains nothing to ordinary Pakistanis.....be brave and exact in your explanations.)

Unlike them, the Swat militants are a motley group comprising various shades of Pakistanis, primarily madrassah educated and certainly not from the financial elite of the country. As for FATA, the militants comprise several groups ranging from Al-Qaeda offshoots, religious zealots, Afghan Taliban, Pakistan Taliban, local groups and criminal elements.

(of course you would know better about them, then Holbrooke.............but in one sense I agree with Holbrooke; they are ALL the same as al-Qaeda; Islamic fundamentalists are Islamic fundamentalists, whats the difference? Sharia law, women should only live within their homes and not venture out; no music; no fun; ; no TV; no cinema; no development; no modernity, all enforced through the power and might of the gun, locally or regionally.

BUT unlike Holbrooke, I obviously have different opinions as to their true origins, you know how they first came into existence. Holbrooke and the Western MSM say they naturally appeared, through the radicalization of fighting in Afghanistan, and the animosity of especially American presence in their territory later.......WHILST I say that these array of organizations which suddenly appear are fake organizations of Western intelligence working as a fifth column to destabilize Muslim countries, which can then be softened up for future invasion and attack of other nations (Afghanistan/Pakistan/India?/Iran............) Al-Qaeda is a fake front organization of Israeli/Western intelligence.........to be sure Osama Bin Laden was a real person until 2001, when he possibly died, but to say that he has thousands upon thousands of men under his control....that is the fake part of the Western propaganda, about Islamic terrorism.

Uniquely the Pakistani government and many like you Ms Mazar maintain this fake narrative for America/Israel about al-Qaeda, to the detriment of Pakistan long term (for if there is really no al-Qaeda why does America need to be in Pakistan? If America created the Taliban through the Pakistani military then why is America in Pakistan?)...........Rehman Malik says that the 3/3 attack is the work of possibly al-Qaeda......nah....that was the work of Pakistanis clearly probably working for one of the millions of fundie groups with links to the military.......they don't want Sharif agitating for power.....but the idiots might have miscalculated....and energized their political enemies within Pakistan.)

But for Holbrooke it would appear these crucial differences are irrelevant and all that is relevant is the religious identity! Talk about bigotry and prejudice. As for his understanding of the security situation in the NWFP, it was defined in terms of people not “being able to walk their dogs!” Now how many ordinary citizens of
Pakistan actually keep dogs as pets and walk them every evening a la New York
style? And this is the best Obama could muster as a Special Envoy!

(Sala Bacha is Jew Kuta himself, appointed to look after the Jews interests in this region.......OPIUM....the ultimate Jewish controlled international global business (Globally narcotics and amphetamine business from Israel is worth $600 billion). From Afghanistan specifically it is worth any where between $50---100 billion, with some Afghan war lords getting a share of the profits, along with certain Pakistanis, Iranian mullahs, Turkish security people in the military, Kosovo...........then into Europe and North America.....huge business, where the Afghans toil over it and get the least; the Americans provide the key logistics and organization, with the British not too far behind, and the final profits into the Jews and their banks to be laundered, in London especially and NY of course.....COVER story with no end in sight: "We need to be in Afghanistan to look for OBL, al-Qaeda and fight the Taliban, who might take over Afghanistan and Pakistan tomorrow.

The Afghan people are being suckered first and foremost, as are the Pakistanis, the good American ordinary folk, the good ordinary British people.................NATO. But which brave gentlemen in positions of responsibility is going to say, "excuse me this is all so wrong, we're in Afghanistan pimping for the Jew and his international narco business"

The language Holbrooke uses, in reference to the dog is the expression of his arrogance and disdain. Of course the Jew knows most Pakistanis don't keep dogs; they can barely feed themselves. But this is his Jew sarcasm, of condescension, of even of contempt and hate. )

But for us Holbrooke is a secondary issue.

( I wouldn't say that, have you seen his back ground and history? The Jew is a Jewish power person appointed specifically to pursue their agenda's in a particular area. If his policies reinforced Balkanisation and separatism in one part of the world which then created failed narco-states run by America as further staging posts of their empire {Bosnia, Kosovo----using Islamic fundamentalists shipped from Afghanistan 1992---1998, and Iranian finance !!!!!!!!}, then I would be very very concerned in his activities in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

I would view him with extreme extreme hostility, and put him under total surveillance, and note his activities............and be very very wary of him. If the bastard says its sunny, it means its going to rain; if he says all is well; it means things are going badly)

Far more critical is the lying and cheating the governments of Pakistan have been indulging in with their own people as they have gradually conceded more and more sovereignty to the U.S.A. We now know that the drone attacks have not only been done with the complicity of the
Pakistan government (with both the military and civilian components giving their assent) but also with the provision of a special drone airbase at Bandari, about 87 kilometres from Kharan in Balochistan. There has been a deliberate effort to confuse the issue by citing the Shamsi base close to the Iranian border, built by an expansion of the old Juzzak airport, which is actually primarily being used by the U.S. to destabilize Iran. The drone airfield is a separate clandestine one that does not figure even in the international list of the 22 restricted areas identified in Pakistan – because the drone base is not controlled at all by the Pakistan military – it has simply been handed over to the U.S. to do with as they please. Even more pathetic is the news that our air defense personnel are now embedded in the U.S. embassy in Islamabad
to ensure the safety of the drones as they go about killing fellow Pakistanis.

(Quite surreal hey Ms Mazar? The Pakistani defense forces have the resources to protect the Americans in Pakistan, least there is any angry Pakistanis with missiles etc, but the Pakistani defense forces can also facilitate the Americans to attack and kill innocent Pakistani civilians from Pakistani bases, in the course of waging a bogus fake, trumped up war against al-Qaeda and the Taliban, fake narratives which the Americans created with the Pakistan military.

Then the Pakistani military are not working for Pakistan but are an alien occupation force working for a foreign power and their geo-strategic criminal objectives; OPIUM, OIL and the Pakistan nukes.

That could explain the behavior of the Pakistani military in 1971, in East Pakistan, in Baluchistan since, in FATA...............they have a tendency to fight their bloodiest, nastiest and longest wars against their own people.)

As for our Defense Minister declaring that the
U.S.
drones have been given rights to land only after they have killed Pakistanis; this is so ridiculous a claim one cannot waste time critiquing its irrationality. In any case, the Foreign Minister declared that the statement was based on a misconception – such is the dysfunctional nature of the state. But then when lies and cover ups are to be maintained this is what happens!

(Ms Mazar I would say a good deal of your top politicians and military brass are foreign owned agents.........that's why you get this anus talk from them......how do you justify the unjustifiable? You can't.)

Nor is the drone issue the only major relinquishing of state sovereignty by
Pakistan. The New York Times has revealed what many of us had been writing about for some time now, that the U.S. has around 70 military advisers and technical specialists who are training our military to fight Al Qaeda. That is comical given the lack of success the U.S. is having fighting this beast in Afghanistan! Apparently this secret task force has been in Pakistan
since summer 2008 – although there have been sightings of the odd foreigner much earlier in the area around Warsak!

(Because there is no beast to fight in Afghanistan, its all part of a slow occupation of Pakistan to pit Pakistanis against Pakistanis as per the "El Salvador Option"................

1) The Americans through "Operation Cyclone", and "Operation Green belt" used the Pakistani military to train upwards of 85,000 mujaheddin.....and the primary resources were given to the most extremist Mujaheddin groups......Hekmatyar and Haqqanni.....not your normal average moderate Afghan, but peculiarly perverse extremist groups. The Democrats start the ball rolling and the Republicans pick it up.

2) "Operation Taliban" again an idea of the Democrats in 1994, using Benazir and of course the Pakistan military, to fight the Afghan Mujaheddin and bring order and control to Afghanistan, under Pakistani guidance.

3) Now we have "operation anti-Taliban and al-Qaeda"...and the Americans want to train some new types of Pakistanis, the Frontier Force to deal with the old Taliban.

Where does it all end? It doesn't and it is a damned good way to destabilize Pakistan.

But our loyal, patriotic Pakistani armed forces top brass don't see where its all going)

Then there is the access given to the FBI to accompany our security forces as they make their arrests. Why? Is it because the
U.S. does not trust our security forces? There are also revelations coming in of how the British were part of the torture machinery of Pakistani prisoners alongside our agencies. Now where will all this go? Will we soon simply hand over our nuclear assets to the U.S.
also for “security” reasons – if we have not already done so! After all, with all the duplicity going on, who can trust the state anymore to tell the truth?

(Who knows what arrangements Musharaf agreed to with the USA, after 2001. There are some rumors that the Americans have some control over Pakistan's nuclear assets.............only a clean, open accountable civilian government can get at the truth. Zardari the American puppet won't.......he will be constantly lying to the people..........

As to torturers from the former Evil British Empire being allowed to torture Pakistani nationals in Pakistan for allegedly belonging to al-Qaeda, a fake organization run by the Pakistani military for America is unbelievable!!! The Pakistani military top brass are worse than the Jew Kuta, just unbelievable..........words fail me, what can I say about the Pakistani military top brass?

As to the FBI, have you noticed how ALL 3 South Asian governments are falling over themselves in inviting the FBI to investigate serious security situations within their respective countries (Mumbai 26/11/2008.....BDR massacre 25/2/2009.......... Lahore 3/3/2009)...........this tells us more about the weakness of these countries governments, than anything else.

Ms Mazar no serious, respectable, competent, responsible, confident, able government, elected by the people through fair open elections in a country invites foreign security agencies to rummage through the national dirty linen, none. Not Russia, not China, not Venezuela, not Iran, not Turkey, not France, not................By doing this, you are basically saying, "we are not competent to investigate our own national security problems ourselves, because either the government does not trust the security agencies, or have no confidence in an open fair investigation by its own investigative mechanisms."

You are openly advertising your national failures to the world.

Who is the FBI? Its an intelligence organization of the JEWUSA, that deals with internal criminal/security issues. It originally was run as the personal fiefdom of JE Hoover, the homosexual head who ran the organization until his death in 1972, from the 1920's. He basically did what he wanted, without any accountbility.

The first area of controversy is their COINTELPRO program against hundreds, possibly thousands of ordinary innocent Americans whom the FBI did not like, because of their opinions and political activity. These American citizens did not break the law in any way, and they were never subsequently charged with anything, but the FBI put them under surveillance and in many cases destroyed their lives........loss of jobs, broken marriages etc.............this went on against targeted individuals for years into decades.....unconstitutional, and wholly illegal.(The British version of which I have faced since 1985)

The Great FBI at the same time from the 1950's through to the 1990's, never actually detected any significant Soviet spying operations in the USA (counter-espionage, their responsibility) In fact they have problems detecting any Israeli espionage in addition......OR espionage of other countries.

Finally under JE Hoover, there was no such thing as the American Mafia. In his 'little' world all Americans were more or less apple pie, and such things as organized crime did not exist...........through his tenure the American Mafia greatly consolidated their position, and in many respects became almost legitimate members of American society.....dominating narcotics, pornography, liquor, gambling, prostitution, money laundering, protection rackets, fraud, swindling, blackmailing....and so on.

So maybe they are not perfect, but at least JE Hoover is gone, and the extensive Capital Hill investigations into the organization in the 1970's have since inserted new reforms by which this organization is abiding by, right?

I wish I could agree, but alas if we just look at the issue of counter terrorism, we only see failure after failure after failure....1993 WTC, Oklahoma City bombing 1995, Ruby Ridge, Waco, and of course 9/11 just a few yards away from their largest office in the country (NY FBI office, 1100 personnel).

More sinister explanations from the alternative security fraternity is that by using agent provocateurs, the FBI actually organized some of the above mentioned terrorist acts......to reinforce and increase their powers within America for certain vested interest groups in the country (Criminal Jews........you need a dictatorial America that does not ask too many questions for the criminal Jew to succeed), increase government patronage and their sense of importance to the country....heaven forbid, where would the world be without the FBI? Where would South Asia be without the FBI?

And it gets better; according to this Indian paper and other sources it was Indian intelligence which identified the 19 hijackers that allegedly carried out 9/11, which the FBI relied on and used. Now I know that under the BJP from 2000, India moved closer to Israel, and it would be natural for India to "produce" such a list for the FBI. But the question is how would Indian security know for definite the activities of 19 Arabs in far away USA from India, for years and months and come to definite conclusion that they had carried out 9/11....and more logically why would the FBI rely on such a list????

Its what we call the business of obtaining "legitimacy" in the platform of propaganda, and you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. Intelligence organizations due to their shady background, and illegal work.................basically you have to be a certified criminal to work in such organizations unless you are a pure analyst. "legitimacy" can be obtained if another foreign source can confirm the "truth"....which is the role India played in 9/11, never mind the high improbability that such guys would clearly and audibly be disclosing their full membership and fraternity over the airwaves for India to over hear.....but who's asking hey?

And so we now have the return of the favor where the FBI, basically sells the Indian narrative about Mumbai 26/11, and covers up Israel's role yet again as they did with 9/11. The FBI investigations gives it a seal of efficacy and truth you see, with all their first world technology which our Indian investigators being a "Slumdog" country cannot gain access to ..........and lo Bangladesh also wants the FBI.........and the Pakistani government........assholes!!!!!

Meanwhile we continue to hear statements that external sources are funding the militants in parts of
Pakistan
and now the ISPR head, General Athar Abbas has declared that the military cannot control the “external elements” being funded by hostile sources. But the point is why is no one in the state identifying these elements and sources of funding? Why is it being kept so vague? What is the pressure and where is it coming from?

(Because the Pakistani military know that the external sources funding Baitullah Mesud is the USA, and others. The Pakistani military know that the USA know that they have full total linkages with the Taliban which creates problems for the USA in Afghanistan and kill USA servicemen, thus its OK given what Pakistan is doing for the USA to back anti-Pakistani Taliban, AND carry out Drone attacks..........its fair game in the circumstances........and dangerous, given the nature of the relationship between Pakistan and the USA security forces.

The best policy is of course for Pakistan to distance itself from the USA, AND not try playing a double game with the USA, where the Pakistan military take billions of $ from the USA......$12 billion so far in the name of fighting terrorism handing over upwards of 650 people whom the ISI employed originally in Afghanistan and innocent Pakistanis, and pretend fighting the Afghan and Pakistan Taliban; BUT at the same time have linkages with these same groups supplying them, and coordinating their action in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

In the global IQ league Pakistanis are way down, dumb.....and the Pakistani military should refrain from playing this dangerous double game with the USA of all countries:

Request the USA leave Pakistan totally ......military and security presence.

Stop all linkages and support for the Taliban. The Gulf sponsored American backed effort to consolidate Afghanistan under Pakistani influence from 1994, isn't going to happen again. America and the Gulf states will not support such an effort again the second time........the question is how realistic the the Pakistani top military brass want to be about this fact.)

As the deceit ( The deceit is as much by the Pakistani top military brass as it is by the USA............but Pakistan can lose a lot more if the deceit goes pear shaped) by the state continues, the peace in Swat seems to be holding for the present and the nine points for maintaining this peace that have been given by Sufi Mohammad are interesting because they make demands from both sides. Incidentally, the Taliban have also declared a unilateral ceasefire in Bajaur. Since our rulers look up to the West for almost everything, perhaps they should study the Good Friday Agreement which ended the
Northern Ireland conflict and in which concessions were made by all parties. Just to inform some judgmental but ignorant critics, the British Army was also unable to go into areas of Northern Ireland
controlled by the armed IRA – the many “no-go” areas but eventually control by the state came through dialogue, not military force! And many prisoners were also released as part of the deal.

(I am afraid one cannot make simple analogies between Northern Ireland problem, and the Afghan/Pakistan/Taliban situation. By the 1990's the IRA had basically been infiltrated, and militarily defeated....with members of the IRA killing each other based on false information being supplied by British intelligence and their agents within the IRA.....up to 50 IRA members were killed by the IRA based on false information from the British agents in the IRA..................

1) The IRA had been fighting for 25 years, and there was sense in that organisation that perhaps it was time to try something different like peace, and the British, and especially MI-6 identified this fact and initiated unofficial peace talks without any commitments.

2) In addition a good deal of the top security people based in Northern Ireland, working for the British government, that were fighting the IRA were killed in an accident.....80/90 of them........so the hard line fraction of the Protestant community who could prevent peace, peace which would make their jobs irrelevant were gone.

3) Labor was elected in 1997, and they were more sympathetic in talking directly with the IRA, AND giving them reasonable concessions in terms of political power sharing, and general role in politics which the IRA leadership Jerry Adams Michael McGinnis could present to the IRA fraternity of 600/700 members.

4) The Protestant majority in Northern Ireland slowly came around to the idea, that perhaps it was time to bury the hatchet, after so many years of conflict, and were encouraged by the devolution progress of Scotland, Wales, AND the increasing affluence of the Republic of Ireland, with ample EU help.......i.e what's the point of fighting when considerable gains could be made through peaceful negotiations for the Protestant majority? They rationalized and used their common sense.

NOW in relation to Afghanistan/Pakistan/Taliban/al-Qaeda, you have far many more actors involved in this problem, with each thinking they are smarter than the other and each thinking they have a fair chance of "winning" if they just stick it out a little longer.

1. The Americans have a stake in the Afghan/Pakistan problem: (i) The Opium--$50--$100 billion worth, which they can't just walk away from.....the insurgency from Pakistan provides them an excuse to stay. (ii) There may be a desire to occupy Pakistan in the future, in the course of creating an empire.....the dream of empire is still there within the top brass of the American military, and political class.

2. Israel.......its quite simple, the Pakistan nukes, a goal of theirs since the 1970's, articulated through the USA, India (BJP especially) and so forth.

3. The British Empire.........a nostalgic desire to recreate the Britisj Raj using the Americans, and more specifically using their agents in America Brezinzski et al..."Grand Chessboard" other such theoretical nonsense about Pax Americana in Central Asia, and the Eurasian landmass.(ii) London is the global center for the laundering of drugs narcotics money, has been since the 18th century, and in that sense Britain has certain"financial" interests in the Afghan/Pakistan problem. In on sense you don't need thousands upon thousands of your troops on the spot to run your narco empire......but certainly in the initial stages as with Bengal in the 18th century and later China, some force locally is useful if you want to make sure you gain the maximum profits, and crowd out competition from likely competitors.

4. Pakistan......some in the top Pakistani military brass feel and think that if they just stick it out, and maintain linkages with the Taliban, that somehow in the future when the Americans are worn out, Pakistan can again regain control of Afghanistan.....so the top Pakistani military brass are playing a dangerous double game with America....not that the Americans are complaining loudly (Do you read about it in the press?)....because the Pakistanis are providing the justification and reason for why the USA needs to be in the region for an indefinite time.

So with so many actors with conflicting interests, very difficult to achieve peace in the Pakistan/Afghan scenario. Pakistan can only achieve some kind of settlement on its side of the border, if a strong administration, disconnected from the USA/UK, decide to deal with the Top brass of the Pakistani military and their hidden agenda's, and (i) Remove all foreign security personnel from Pakistan USA/UK mainly (ii) Destroy all linkages between the Pakistan military and the Taliban (iii) Cut all linkages between the Pakistan military and all radical Islamic groups in Pakistan.(iv) Call America's bluff and tell the world about the reality of al-Qaeda, and the role of the Pakistani military in that fake narrative......thus you remove the justification of America being in the region.

That's a tough call, and you need a strong leader in Pakistan to do that. Is there one like that?

I have excluded Iran, Russia and India from the above list because they don't have direct military presence in Afghanistan, and as a Pakistani one should be wary of becoming jealous each time the USA keeps requesting how India is playing a role in Afghanistan. Note, we should not use chamar logic and mentality, and get angry with India, over this little USA psychological game. The Indians have declined sending troops to Afghanistan.

Coming back to the issue of the Pakistani state’s deception of its own people, the net result is that there is no credibility left. That is why interlocutors like Sufi Mohammed become necessary. If the credibility of the government and the establishment is to be re-established, they must first come clean on the extent of the sovereignty already surrendered to the
U.S.. Then they must de-link from the U.S. and claim back the lost sovereignty before it is too late. Whether one likes it or not, unless Pakistan creates space between itself and the U.S.
, there will be no peace and security and the space for moderates will continue to shrink.

( Yes Yes and Yes............How can the Islamic Republic of Pakistan have reasonable relations with the JEWUSA.......you can't.)

Study the history of U.S.-backed regimes – be it in
Iran, Vietnam, or the many examples of Latin America. U.S. leaders like Obama will not alter the strategic vision the U.S. has of itself – and Obama’s first moves vis-Ă -vis Pakistan have hardly been encouraging. So let us break our leadership’s psychological dependency on Washington
. The rest will follow. Otherwise, the threat our ruling and miniscule westernized elites are seeking to avert will surely become a reality.

(So Sharif must do his duty and take power eventually, from Zardari. His political campaign must focus on Zardari only and the increasing ALL APPARENT failure of Zardari's regime.....................some where in the future Sharif must and should succeed over Zardari and his corrupt/criminal regime filled with foreign backed agents; its a matter of time only......this year hopefully.

However in many respects, Zardari is irrelevant once is he removed from power.

The real problem for Sharif and Pakistan generally is the Pakistan military, as briefly explained in very basic metric terms above. So although he must focus verbally on Zardari's failures in government exclsively, which ordinary Pakistanis can relate to, whilst out of power, when Sharif actually comes to power, it is the military he needs to sort out..............and be wary of.

Unfortunately all too many Pakistanis still have a rather quaint romantic view of the Pakistan military (I suppose most people must believe in some thing which is honorable and reliable within Pakistan.....if not the politicians or institutions of state who else?) , and whilst that may be justified for most of the men serving in the Pakistan military, the real problem is the top brass of the Pakistani military. Zardari only came to power less than a year ago, but the real root causes of Pakistan's national problems go back much further preceding Zardaris accent into power..........this root cause of Pakistan's problems were/are caused by the Pakistani military solely, and it is this which Sharif must face and address when he finally ascends power, without talking about it openly.

One final point which I want add is that Sharif in the course of pursuing power does not become a later day ZA Bhutto, against Zardaris "East Pakistanis", 1970 redux. Granted that Sharifs power base is the Punjab and he should have no shame in mobilising this area, but in doing so he should not create animosity with other states in Pakistan, and over play the role of a later day Punjabi nationalist.

Zardari is bad for the Punjab, for Sindh, for Baluchistan, for NWFP, for ALL of Pakistan, and it is this message that Sharif must convey to the WHOLE OF THE COUNTRY.

Good Luck!
